Feedback form is now closed.
For the past three decades Illinois State University has collaborated with Heartland Head Start to provide Mental Health Consultation to support children, classroom teachers, families, and other Head Start staff. The arrangement offers a variety of training opportunities to school psychology graduate students at all levels of experience, as well as innovative, evidence-based intervention supports. In this presentation we will describe how the partnership developed and evolved over time, and provide examples of services provided, including in-service training for Head Start Staff, classroom support from first-year students, and examples of successful consultation efforts with teachers. We will also describe the supervision structure, involving university faculty, advanced doctoral students, and Head Start personnel. At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Understand how similar collaborative partnerships with local universities can be developed and maintained over time
  2.  Understand the  type and delivery formats of mental health consultation provided to Head Start staff
  3.  Learn examples of evidence based intervention supports provided to Head Start children and families.
