Regular participation in physical activities is essential for children in all ages. While many preschoolers with disabilities have deficits or delays in motor development, most do not spend enough time in active motor play. In this hands on workshop, we will share evidence-based practice strategies and provide concrete ideas for developmentally appropriate activities that parents and teachers can implement to support children’s physically active behaviors and merging physical activity and school readiness skills during inclusive classroom and at home.

The expected participant outcomes include increased knowledge about the:
  • the importance of physical activity for young children
  • strategies for engaging educators in supporting school readiness skills (motor, social, language, pre-academics) during motor play
  • adaptations to typical preschool activities to meet children’s unique needs.
